My First Dick

It has been exactly 365 days since Hannah stumbled across Lolo Ferrari in the 1999 Guinness World Book of Records at the school library, which ignited a fiery obsession of drawing women with giant knockers. Today is Hannah’s 11th birthday and she only wants one thing - to see a penis.

This short will be a vibrant and nostalgic throwback to awkward fashion, awkward music and awkward tweens in a working class town setting. With a sprinkling of era related nods to shows like Nickelodeon’s Cow & Chicken, where adults were only ever seen by their legs/arms. We have also made the creative choice to have adults play the entire tween cast to further push the comedic element like Kevin & Perry.

If this short were a person, it would be Tracy Beaker’s gob shite little cousin from Essex.

We are so excited to be working with such an incredible trio of actors on My First Dick.

Emma is an actress, comedian and writer for radio, stage and screen. She started performing in the Cambridge Footlights group, writing, performing and directing her own material across the UK and internationally.

Emma's hit solo show Emma Sidi: Telenovela ran at the Edinburgh Fringe, Soho Theatre and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Her third solo show Emma Sidi: Faces of Grace was a hit at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe. Emma wrote and starred in Last Resort, a comedy short for Sky, and is developing original work for TV with Comedy Central and Guilty Party. She has also starred as the lead, Millipede, in two series of BAFTA-nominated comedy series Pls Like.

In 2006, Amit was offered a part in The Royal Hunt of the Sun at the National Theatre; the same part that Derek Jacobi played in the original production in 1964. He stayed on at the National Theatre to perform three plays, including The Alchemist, directed by Nicholas Hytner for which he was nominated for an Ian Charleson Award. He also played a principal role in The Man of Mode, alongside Tom Hardy, Rory Kinnear and Hayley Atwell.

Shah has starred in a variety of TV shows since 2006. His most notable roles include Sunny in BBC One's Hospital People, Fred in Channel 4's Crashing, Torque in The Witcher for Netflix and currently BBC One's The Other One. Shah has also had a variety of roles in feature films, in 2014 for The Hundred-Foot Journey in which he starred alongside Helen Mirren and Om Puri. He has since been cast in Johnny English Strikes Again, Ordinary Love, and Last Christmas, to name a few.

Ellen played Poppy opposite Kaya Scodelario and Rufus Sewell in the hit BBC One Agatha Christie mini-series THE PALE HORSE. She recently filmed the BBC Three series, IN MY SKIN. Over December 2019 and January 2020, Ellen appeared in the London transfer of SNOWFLAKE by Mike Bartlett at the Kiln Theatre. Ellen starred in the Oxford run of the show last year. The show, and Ellen, received stellar reviews.

She is currently working on a play ‘Any Willing Provider’ about her time working as a GP Receptionist in Hackney, and ‘Benders’, the first scene of which was performed at the Arcola Theatre in May.  Ellen and her writing and comedy partner, Charly Clive, are developing a scripted television project with Pure producers Drama Republic. She started life (not literally) at Cambridge University and was a member of comedy troupe The Footlights: ‘the most renowned sketch troupe of them all’.

Her most recent short film ‘Reflection’ directed by academy award winner Mark Sanger, acclaimed great success. Now moves onto MFD with second time Director Kate McCoid.

Edward's approach embraces naturalism and simplicity, but looks to elevate and heighten where needed, whether through a light and detailed touch or bolder, more graphic tones. He's very excited to be a part of the My First Dick team, and can't wait to make a start after months of planning and preparation.

    From Kate,

We have been extremely fortunate to put together such an enthusiastic and talented team of people for this short film who are giving their time to this project unpaid. We would much prefer to be able to pay everyone their rightfully earned wage, but are currently not in a position to do so. So the next step for us, is to raise money to ensure that we take the very best care of them while we are creating this short film.

This story is very personal to me, because it is very tightly based upon my own experience. Around 80% of this short actually happened. I was such a curious child and when I found out I was missing out on something, I had to immediately know what it was. The hilarity of looking back on my reaction to my first exposure to boobs and penises inspired me to share it in a narrative that I hope will help other people find the humour in their own weird coming-of-age experiences.

With shows like Big Mouth, Pen15 and Sex Education thriving, the sharing of embarrassing yet relatable body discovery stories are currently embraced not only for their comedic elements, but for the normalisation of the universal truth that we were all once clueless and curious kids just trying to work it all out.

2020 has been tough for everyone and this short will give a little comedic brevity from it all.
