    WHO ARE WE

So La Flair are a self-made creative collective of emerging artists aiming to disrupt the current patriarchal norms of theatre making through collaborative work. Based in Manchester, they regularly host alternative cabaret and club nights as well as facilitating wellbeing and community theatre work. They aim to facilitate a space for the radical restructuring needed in the mainstream arts industry to progress to equality and empowerment both on and off stage.

    THE PROJECT

With the Kardashians fiercely back on our screens, this show is a fearless examination of the relationship between young women and their bodies in a culture of abnormal aesthetic values. With the Kardashians signed on to another $100 million dollar deal, the season drenched in image manipulation and glossy lips, this show asks the timely and urgent question, why are we still watching and where do we go from here?

Following their sell-out shows in Manchester and London So La Flair make their Edinburgh debut with their cabaret campaign against keep up culture. Based on interviews with women and non-binary people aged 5-60, this is a dance party protest about shaking our asses to the rhythm of our own drums, reclaiming power by redefining beauty and confronting the ugly truth of why we feel ugly.

Directed by Lucy Laverty and Scarlett Spicer, the performance blends verbatim, movement, monologue and sketches embodying the impossible reach of beauty standards and its entanglement in our everyday existence. Expect an epic playlist including Toddrick Hall, Lil Simz and Teyana Taylor, belly laughs, brave truths and high vibrations. Sorry Kim, we’re not buying it this time.

    WHY ARE WE FUNDRAISING

We need your support to help us on the road to our next and most exciting destination ... THE EDINBURGH FRINGE !!

So La Flair is proud to announce that we are part of Underbelly's 2022 fringe programme. It's something we've always dreamed of doing with the show and we can't be prouder to be going up with such an exciting and prestigious venue space.

Unfortunately the funds needed to take a show to the fringe are very large and so we are turning to you, our friends and family to support us on this incredible mission. As we have turned to you once before to financially support this show we are only asking for what you feel you can give to our team currently if at all. No donation is too small and your continued support means more than any donation ever could. The funds raised will go towards logistical costs for taking the show up to Edinburgh as well as financially supporting our artists.

Thank you in advance for any donation you chose to make.

Montana Rose Aguelo De Guero Barrera

Montana is a Spanish and Argentinian performer and creator who recently graduated from the University of Manchester. Montana was involved with So La Flair’s collaboratively devised piece, HTKUWTK. For Montana, being a part of this play was a wonderful experience as it was one of the first times she had the opportunity to access a platform upon which she could celebrate her lived experience as a curvy Latin woman; especially given the way that they are caricatured, exoticised, and typecast in mainstream media. Montana has taught theatre in underprivileged schools and prisons and from that she has seen how theatre unites people who might never have had any reason to associate and that is what she loves about art and theatre. Montana can’t wait to see what this year brings for So La Flair.
