Annoying Blonde Americans is a satirical, heartfelt exploration of identity, culture clash, and womanhood, viewed through the lens of two unapologetically chaotic American cousins thrown into the emotional minefield that is London life. Beneath the bleach and bravado, Cam and Lana’s story is ultimately about an unlikely sisterhood, survival, and self-awareness in a city that doesn’t care if you’re lost or lonely.

    DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

As a British director working with American writers, I aim to highlight both the British and American perspective in terms of humour and Cam and Lana’s experiences. This special collaboration allows us to hold up a dual mirror to the quirks of both cultures, highlighting the absurdity of British pessimism and American overconfidence in equal measure. The humour comes from contrast, but the story is driven from the things that connect us, feeling adrift in your twenties and trying to navigate love, friendships and life. At its core, this series will allow you to get lost in the chaos of these Annoying Blonde Americans in London.

    ABOUT US

    Joy, Director

Joy (she/her) is a British director born and raised in London. Joy’s most recent short film, Fallacies has been selected for various film festivals such as Brighton Rocks, Middlebury New Filmmaker and The Iron Mule. During her undergraduate degree in Theatre and Performance at the University of Leeds, she has built up her visual storytelling skills from directing and producing multiple student theatre productions. Joy’s acting experience enabled her deep interest in psychology, telling stories, understanding the importance of human connections and how humour plays into the human condition. Since undertaking her MA in Directing with MetFilm School at Ealing Studios, Joy has directed commercials, short films and web series. Currently, she strives to pursue a career within the screen industry, telling important stories, keeping viewers entertained and making people laugh. As an emerging filmmaker, she hopes Annoying Blonde Americans will be the catalyst for a meaningful and inspired career within the industry.

    Aria, Actor/Writer

Aria Fischer is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist who recently made the career switch into the screen industries. After graduating from Stanford University with a BA in Creative Writing, she narrowed her focus on TV and film, moving to London to attend Metfilm, where she graduated with her Masters in Screenwriting. Aria is a longtime fan of comedies that blend silliness and absurdity with unlikable yet concerningly relatable characters. In her own writing, she focuses on comedic stories that reflect her unique life experience, most recently her move from Los Angeles to London to find her new life purpose after retiring from elite sport. The character Cam may or may not be derived from this life experience.

    Sophie, Actor/Writer

Sophie Ryan is a writer with a love for all things a little bit wacky and weird. During her time as an undergraduate at Manhattan University, Sophie majored in media production and minored in film studies and theater. While at university, Sophie also performed in an improv comedy group, which nurtured her love of offbeat humor and performing. Sophie moved to London to obtain her MA in Screenwriting from MetFilm School. After spending her time at film school experimenting with writing, production design, and even special effects, Sophie is ready to try her hand at a webseries. Outside of screenwriting, her prose writing has been featured in Nowhere Girl Collective.

    Holly, Producer

Pairing her undergraduate degree in Education and Psychology from the University of Cambridge with an MA in Directing from MetFilm School, Holly now works as a Producer in the advertising industry, using her unique perspective on behavioural science, storytelling and the screen to mobilise and realise creative projects. Holly has a deep affinity for narratives that examine the nuance and complexity of womanhood, and has found no better home for such a pursuit than through the vehicle of comedy, both in her own work and the stories she consumes. London born Holly is now helping to bring Annoying Blonde Americans to life, determined to convince the British that when you get to the heart of it, they’re not so bad after all.

    THE STORY

When LANA (23) secures her Californian second cousin CAM (23) an internship at the London-based talent agency she works for, she reluctantly agrees to house her for the summer at her mom’s insistence. Cam lands at Heathrow with two bags and immediately feels lost in a foreign country. What the fuck is Cockfosters and why does she have to go toward it? She’d really rather not go toward it.

Cam is a California elitist who looks down on Lana for being from Maryland, and Lana is entirely too convinced that her Irish-American roots make her more suited to the cold weather over here. They experience similar British culture shocks together…like what the fuck is up with the queues and why is everyone so negative all the time? Also, why do the penises have extra skin around them?

They both are tortured by shitty men (spoiler alert, men are the same no matter what country you live in) and struggle through Hinge dates with men who shockingly don’t resemble Harry Styles. Cam detests Lana’s Italian neighbor across the hall, named VINCENZO (28), whilst Lana develops a sultry flirtation with Vincenzo’s mysterious and quiet Italian cousin, ENZO (28). As the UK becomes increasingly colder as autumn creeps in, and Lana and Cam feel the British pessimism pulling them under, they bond over their sisterhood that is deeply rooted in their Americanness and their diabolical love for bleach.
