BIG PANTS is about Michael, a young boy who comes home with a black eye. When his mother fails to get any information out of him, she turns to her friend's child Kiki, who just happens to visit at the right moment.
Logline: Michael gains a black eye, a sibling and an appreciation for large trousers all in one afternoon.
Summary: After arriving home early from school with a black eye, Michael nurses his new wound as his mother Michelle unsuccessfully tries to find out what happened. When Kiki, the child of Michelle's church friend, arrives to deliver some authentic Ghanaian cuisine, she seizes the opportunity to have them find out the truth.
BIG PANTS is a story about the siblings we only meet once, the fight to be yourself and how cool having a tamagotchi is. A sweet little story about masculinity, gender identity and solace found in community, right on your doorstep. It's a short and sweet story about a passing moment in time - one that may not seem like much to one person, but shapes the worldview of another.
Visual Style: As a short and sweet summertime film, our visual references lean towards bright and warm - like a hug, and like the story itself.
We've got a brilliant crew already and support from Casa Creative Studios, VMI and Perfomance Insurace who are helping with studio space, equipment and some insurance costs already. But filmmaking is expensive and we're fundraising to help with the rest of our insurance costs, set design, costume, expenses, catering etc!
By donating you'll enable us to build a fully realised living room within the walls of Casa Creative Studios. Our production designers will be able to make Michael's home feel lived in and real. We'll be able to get the uh, BIG PANTS (we can't say much more on this - spoilers and what not!), pay expenses for our crew who are all kindly working on a voluntary basis - and feed them well at that!
And when all is said and done, we'll be able to submit our little film to festivals! We can't do it alone and all your help is much appreciated! Plus, we'll have some neat little rewards too!
Writer / Director: Jojo Bossman
Jojo Bosssman is a writer/director currently based in Bristol, focused on telling stories for your heart, from their heart. Jojo likes to tell dramatic stories that aren't as dramatic as they are heartfelt, focusing on being human and being hopeful. When they're not doing that though, they work in the camera department across feature films, high end TV, music videos, short films and more - giving them the insight and experience to tell stories to a professional quality. Jojo hopes to focus on writing and directing more this year, starting with BIG PANTS.
Director's Statement: I think we need more stories about the nerdy Black boys. About feeling an outcast on top of that lonely feeling that comes from being a Black boy anyway. I want to tell stories that not only feel real to the world I've known, but are real to those living it too and haven't been shown on screen before. I love kind cinema. I love stories about friends, and stories about human connection. I love those little moments in time we live that pass by in the blink of an eye but stay with us forever. BIG PANTS is all of those things and I hope we can do all of those things justice. I hope we can start being the change we want to see in the stories we tell.

Director of Photography: Ant Belle
Ant Belle is a Camera and Lighting assistant based in London, working in Film, TV, Documentary and High-end Commercials. Having spent the last two years as a Camera Trainee and mentee under internationally renowned DP’s Kaname Onoyama, Oliver Ford and Nathalie Pitters, BIG PANTS is Ant’s first short film as a Director of Photography. Ant strives to achieve bold, striking visuals in their work through an appreciation for vintage glass, balanced compositions and vivid hues reminiscent of film-emulation. Ant’s cinematography takes influence from the work of Christopher Doyle and Tak Fujimoto, through which they are thrilled to communicate Jojo’s heartfelt story of overcoming isolation to find human connection.
