Watch our trailer:
This project is a result of a handful of young creatives, powered by passion, favours, and a deep love of Poe’s work. What we didn’t have in money, we made up for in craft, commitment and care.
Adapting, planning and shooting this film took hundreds of hours, endless late nights and gritty teamwork.
The result is a dark, intimate adaptation that leans into Poe’s psychological horror, whilst remaining loyal to his words. This film lets the audience sit inside a fractured mind and feel the slow, creeping dread that made the original story endure.
Now we want the film to be seen in festivals, schools and beyond. Giving new life to a beloved text and one-of-a-kind writer, Edgar Allan Poe.
Why We’re Crowdfunding Now
The project's producers (Alex, Joe and Stephen) have invested a lot of time, effort and money into the project already.
To recover some of the costs, and to help the film reach the audiences it deserves, we need help to fund our film festival campaign. If successful, this would enable our film to be seen internationally, and potentially on streamers too.
Your support will help us cover:
-
Recovering Alex, Joe and Stephen's production costs - £1000
-
Film festival submission fees - £1000
-
Sound Mixing - £400
-
Event Screening - £500
-
Marketing and promotion - £450
-
Contingency - £150
Why This Film Matters
Poe’s work still speaks to us because it confronts the uncomfortable: shame, cruelty, self-deception, and the stories we tell ourselves to survive. The Black Cat is not just a horror story - it’s a study of violence hidden behind civility, of guilt that refuses to stay buried.
In an age of fast content and disposable media, we wanted to make something carefully crafted, unsettling, and human - a film that lingers.
Backing this project means supporting:
-
Independent filmmaking
-
Literary adaptation done with respect and imagination
-
Artists working outside the mainstream to tell dark, challenging stories
Thank You
If you’re able to support the film financially, we are incredibly grateful. If you can’t, sharing the campaign helps just as much.
You’re not just helping a film travel - you’re helping a classic story find a new audience.
Please have a look at rewards - there might be something perfect for you.
Thank you for believing in independent work, and in the strange, unsettling brilliance of Edgar Allan Poe.
