WHY WE'VE MADE THIS FILM
According to a recent study by Fresh Student Living, student mental health and anxiety is an incredibly significant issue across the United Kingdom. The most extensive study ever done on the topic found that 1 in 5 students suffer from a mental health issue, with depression and anxiety being the most common.
Not only this, but around around 1 in 3 university students have experienced an issue for which they felt the need for professional help. Student mental health statistics indicate that:
- 33% of students often or always feel lonely
- 8% of students often or always feel anxious or worried
These studies were a driving force for the development and production of Cycles. The protagonist in the film, Younger Brother, is experiencing these exact issues. However, what makes the film authentic is the fact that the writer and director, Oscar Wenman-Hyde, has written the screenplay from his own, similar experience.
Now that we are out of production, we need further support to get this film to audiences across the globe. Due to how important the message of Cycles is, we believe it has the potential to start many important conversations with young adults. However, without support, we will be unable to fully fulfil that goal. So please consider joining the team by donating or purchasing the rewards from our campaign.
CHARACTERS
Henry Wilson plays Older Brother who is twenty-three years old, married to his high school sweetheart, and in a dead end job which has little to do with his dreams of being a professional painter. However, five years ago, he was in the same position as his Younger Brother. Whilst that may be considered helpful in this situation, being back in this environment and seeing the worries that his Younger Brother is facing, it forces him into a place where he is unable to openly reflect.
Henry Fisk plays Younger Brother, an eighteen year old who is at the peak of his creativity and at a loss with his identity. However, until moving to university, those feelings had been locked away, but once he realises that his life is now in his hands, the anxiety and crippling self-doubt gets the better of him, and even though he has dreamed of being an actor his whole life, the thought of chasing that dream seems impossible now that it is in his hands.
