Welcome to the official campaign page for THE DREAM MACHINE! Our ambition is to bring the beautifully fascinating world of this Video Game to the big screen.

In an industry where Video Game adaptations are becoming more and more common, THE DREAM MACHINE's unique style and structure invites for a cinematic iteration- hop on and help us on the journey to tell this story!

Here's a little word from the creators of THE DREAM MACHINE:

"Like the feeling of reading someone's diary, Victor Neff who is secretly struggling with the thought of becoming a father, is forced to impose himself into his neighbours and wife's dreams to save them from being consumed by a raging machine."

After finding a hidden camera spying on him and his wife in their new home, Victor sets out to find the person on the other side. In his search, he stumbles in their apartment building's basement upon THE DREAM MACHINE- a sentient machinery which consumes the derams of all tenants in hopes to become more human- and Victor needs to save his wife and unborn child from it.

The original game “The Dream Machine” is an incredibly personality rich story created by two people, Anders and Erik. They’ve successfully created each chapter to fund the next one. Building with everyday materials such as popsicle sticks, ground coffee and leftovers from yesterday’s barbeque gathering. This resulted in a heavily stylized creation that is hard to forget. Furthermore, something noticeable is that the eye sockets of the puppets are completely black with defined eyebrows and noses much like the sculptures of ancient Greece. This creates an even more eerie atmosphere that serves the story with delight. The story of a man, Victor, who feels stuck in life, regretting his life decisions and is terrified of becoming a father. He then finds himself in a battle against a sentient machine that is consuming his pregnant wife and neighbors through their dreams.

First and foremost, I would recommend anyone who hasn’t already played the original game to do so. It covers every part of the story in great detail, and it is an experience you won’t forget. With this adaptation, we intend to shine a new light on the story and the emotions of the characters whilst trying to mimic the original art style as much as possible. Half of it will be done in Stop-motion Claymation covering the dreams, and the waking life is going to be covered in live action.

A lot of interesting questions have been brought up during the development of this story. Is it possible to analyze dreams by means of helping people through their struggles? What would happen if you entered the dreams of your significant other? What if all our dreams are connected somehow? This production is not a science experiment so we won’t be able to figure this out, but in the world of The Dream Machine, all these questions will be answered and more. Especially if we are able to make a long format adaptation in the future.

The budget for THE DREAM MACHINE entails the many different aspects of production that will need to be covered to do the story justice.

With the short being comprised of two different styles of filmmaking, claymation and Virtual Production/Live-action, our budget covers costs for the materials used to build the sets and characters for the former, and costs for VFX/Locations for the latter.
