The Four Horsemen of Muckenthwaite
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have to get part-time jobs on Earth after being made redundant from the underworld. We follow Death, Famine, War and Pestilence as they try to make new lives on Earth.

The Four Horsemen of Muckenthwaite
What's it all about?
The Four Horsemen of Muckenthwaite is a dark comedy fantasy set in a small, grim and fictional town in Northern England. Delivered in the style of an exploitative Channel 4 documentary, we follow the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Pestilence, Famine and Death as they attempt to start new lives on Earth and repair their fragmented friendship, whilst never really fitting in.
Why we’re making this now
In a world that feels increasingly chaotic, The Four Horsemen of Muckenthwaite is our way of turning that chaos into comedy. We’ve spent years being told to “mask”, to “fit in”, or to “tone it down”. So, we decided to build a show where being too much, too weird, or too apocalypse-prone is the point.
This isn’t just a comedy. It’s a rallying call for anyone who’s ever felt out of place, a reminder that your weird, brilliant self deserves the spotlight.
Why your support genuinely matters
Small indie productions don’t come with the luxury of a safety net. Every pound you pledge is a direct “yes” to:
- Neurodivergent creatives leading from the front, not just included, but centred
- Storytelling shaped by lived experience, not stereotypes
- Authenticity behind the scenes as well as in the story, reflecting the reality of navigating a world not built for us
- Northern voices and Northern humour being platformed on-screen
- Emerging filmmakers building sustainable careers in an industry that often overlooks them
- Fantasy-comedy that actually has something to say – about identity, belonging, friendship, and finding your place in the chaos
When you back us, you’re not just helping us film an indie film. You’re helping prove that neurodivergent-led stories belong on screen, and you’re giving four Horsemen (and one very stressed Cupid) a chance to gallop into existence.
Where your money goes
We’re making every penny work harder than War’s anger-management therapist (who, quite frankly, deserves a raise). Your support helps us pay for:
- Fair pay for cast and crew- Because we don’t believe in the “you’ll get exposure!” myth. Exposure doesn’t cover rent, heat a house, or buy Famine’s decomposing fridge contents. Paying people fairly is essential, and it keeps talented creatives in the industry.
- SFX makeup & prosthetics- Horsemen don’t just roll out of bed looking awesome. War needs battle scars, Pestilence needs that questionable white face-paint glow, and Famine needs corpse-chic contouring.
- Our handcrafted Death puppet- Yes, he’s dark. Yes, he’s depressing. Yes, he needs to look more like a haunted marionette from Facebook Marketplace. Because we want him to look like a fully-fledged character, not a GCSE art project that’s seen things.
- Locations in the North that give Muckenthwaite its memorable charm- We film where the humour thrives and where the Horsemen look perfectly at home. At real Yorkshire locations. These locations give the show its realism. Filming here grounds the fantasy and amplifies the comedy
People already believe in this project - here’s why
This isn’t some untested passion project.
We shot a proof-of-concept short, The Supermarket, back in January 2025, taking one glorious scene featuring Cupid and unleashing it into the world. It went on to screen twice at the Unthinkable Film Festival 2025 in Hull and promptly cleaned up on the festival circuit - winning Best Skit, Best Micro Short, Best Mockumentary, and a handful of other shiny laurels that now live rent-free in our hearts.
And the script you’re backing – Four Horsemen of Muckenthwaite – has also been busy showing off. It’s already scooped up multiple awards and nominations, including Best Script and Best Synopsis. It was shortlisted for Academy Award-winning Slick Films 2024, was a finalist at Neurovisions Film Festival, and made the finals at the CineCircle Script Pitching Competition at The Comedy Store in London.
So no, you’re not taking a leap of faith into the cinematic abyss. You’re joining a project already recognised for its originality by festival judges, programmers and filmmakers all giving us the thumbs-up (sometimes even both thumbs).
Backers aren’t walking into the unknown. You’re walking into something with momentum
