Lightbulbs

Picture: a warm, bright, delicate cage. Inside, a tangle of electricity, sparks between two young bodies.

In our most intimate spaces, who do we trust to keep the darkness at bay? And how do we navigate the hard wires of another being?

Eventually, the moth must realise his return to the flame is no longer romantic perseverance, but delusion. The bulb flickers. Giving up is an option.

    Hey!
I’m Heather, one half of Woodhouse&Roderick and co-writer of Lightbulbs.

I studied Drama & English at Goldsmiths and am a fan of anything a bit weird or nature-coded. Bug people, trees with organs etc. I am predominantly an actor/writer and before Christmas wrote and performed in another of our productions, ‘Afternoon Tree’. I have also performed at NYT and Mountview.

I believe Lightbulbs is an important exploration of queer love, vulnerable masculinity, and of people finding themselves despite a little darkness.

I’m TJ, the director and co-writer of lightbulbs.

I’m a queer working-class theatre director from the South Wales Valleys. I am interested in the exploration of absurdist theatre, LGBT characters and themes of mental health and my work is reflective of this.

Previous plays I have written/directed are:

    Igloo

    Negativist

    Decomposition

Plays I have staged managed are:

    Wasted by Kae Tempest

    Savanna by Sarah Naudi

    Dirt by Toby Clarke

    Hello!

My name is Praise, pronouns she/her. I am a queer Nigerian-British theatre producer and studied Theatre and Performance specialising in Musical Theatre at Goldsmiths University.

I now work full-time in arts administration with community groups and young people at the National Theatre. And freelance in theatre producing and burlesque. My work is centred around gender-expression, avant garde and movement.

Lightbulbs is important because it explores the vulnerability of being in a relationship and the fear of accepting love that is deserved and the nuances of that. Yes it is a queer story, but the experience is universal, and an experience of not feeling secure in your relationship or yourself is something most people can relate to.

I play Oran in Lightbulbs. I am a queer actor, mover, and theatre-maker born in Sheffield to English-South African parents.

I am about to graduate from the BA European Theatre Arts at Rose Bruford College and am currently performing in Batsu at Underbelly Boulevard. I have previously performed with Woodhouse & Roderick in Lavender.

Lightbulbs feels like the culmination of training over the past few years for me and it feels right that queerness, absurdism, and movement are core to this performance.

I hope this performance will be as illuminating for you as it is for me.

Hi I’m Mark Crawley I play Ezekiel in Lightbulbs.

I’ve recently graduated from Rambert School studying ballet and contemporary dance and have since spent my time researching my own choreographic practise alongside a wealth of exciting performance opportunities including Lightbulbs!

I’m obsessed with projects that combine movement with nuanced narratives and Lightbulbs has been a wonderful opportunity for me to explore this.

I have loved working on this show with Woodhouse&Roderick and have relished the challenge of exploring the honesty, messiness and joy between the two characters we meet in this play.
