Project
Out for Number One
In 2020, 50.1% of UK women in their 30s were childfree (ONS, 2022), yet society still considers childfree women as the exception. Childfree women are often forgotten within feminism and traditional media. This documentary aims to give a voice to childfree women, creating a platform for their stories and experiences. Through their stories we will discover the societal norms that pressures women to have children, as well as exploring the importance of choice and ownership over one's body.
Director - Andrea Hakansson
The director of this film is Andrea Hakansson, a Swedish filmmaker in her twenties with a deep passion for cinema. She possesses over five years of experience in filmmaking and film editing. Andrea's enthusiasm for cinema, particularly documentary filmmaking, stems from her belief in the importance of creating impactful films that have the power to effect change and influence audiences.
“As a 23 year old woman who personally does not plan on having children, this topic lies very very close to my heart. I strongly believe in the beauty of choice and the power of your own body. When creating my final graduation documentary, I quickly knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to give women like us a platform to speak about their experiences and shed light on just how beautiful a life can be when not choosing to have children.”

Producer - Mariana Ramos Pinto
Mariana Ramos Pinto is a 23-year-old filmmaker with a degree in Marketing Management. Determined to pursue her dreams, she moved to London in September 2022 to return to studying, but this time focusing on her passion: Cinema. She believes that all the projects she is involved in are extensions of her creativity and vision of the world, and she gives her all to everything she does.
"As a woman, I know that when society dictates what we have to be, what we cannot do, or who we are, it is not fair. We all have the right to make our own choices and not be condemned for them. Not choosing to have children does not make a woman less of a woman, it does not make us better or worse people. It is all a matter of choice, and that is why I fight today with this project and always with my voice!"

A quick note about ethics
When creating a documentary whose purpose is to create a platform for women’s voices and experiences - it is of utmost importance to not only represent one type of woman. We all come from different backgrounds and have different prerequisites. Having only one type of woman speaking on the matter won’t reveal much about the issue. Therefore, we will make sure that the documentary will be inclusive.
