Following the death of their mutual friend, Kiri and Eliza move to university where their friendship begins to fracture as their conflicting coping mechanisms emerge.
Project
September

The month of September is the overlap of endings and beginnings. We follow Kiri moving to university just a few days after her close friend, Sophia, passed away. The film explores her inner struggle between the excitement of university life and the guilt for feeling this excitement in the wake of what has happened. This guilt is perpetuated by her school friend and housemate, Eliza, who cannot bring herself to engage in university without their absent friend and expects Kiri to feel the same way.
Kiri believes that acting like things are normal will make them go back to normal so she tries to push away thoughts of Sophia that interrupt her in flashes. She throws herself into fresher’s week and tries to coax Eliza into joining her. But as Eliza turns down each invitation, Kiri finds herself growing frustrated and she begins to question whether her inability to openly mourn makes her a cold person.

We need you to help us make our film! Filmmaking is an expensive endeavor, and this is our graduation film—our biggest project so far.
Your generous contributions will help bring our film to life.
As young artists and students with limited resources, we need all the support we can get. Every donation will go a long way—we can't do this without your support!

Transport
We are shooting in Wales! You may notice that locations are not accounted for in our budget; this is because we have managed to secure all four of our locations for free. This does mean, however, that we must transport our cast members, five primary crew members, nine secondary crew members, props, furniture, and a large amount of equipment to Wales. After conducting an extensive cost-benefit analysis, we deduced that traveling to Wales to utilise free locations would be 53% cheaper than staying in London and renting a location.
Cast Accommodation
The crew members will all be staying in the house we're shooting in; however, our cast members need somewhere to stay while we're in Wales.
Equipment Hire
To make the best film possible, we need access to equipment that the university doesn't provide. While we have sourced as much as possible from friends and colleagues, we still need to rent a small amount of equipment externally to enable the crew to perform their roles on set effectively.
Production Design
Production design is an integral part of creating a believable film. Thankfully, many props can be sourced by us; however, thoughtful and convincing production design requires funding.
Catering
As this is our biggest production to date, we have many cast and crew members to feed. Along with our five primary crew members, we have nine secondary crew members and five cast members who have kindly agreed to work for free. Therefore, we aim to repay them where possible, including providing hot meals on set, as long filming hours can be tough.

"This film draws on my personal experience with losing a close friend just before the start of university and how my processing of this grief differed from some of my friends. People say it's ok not to be ok but is it ok to feel fine? I cared about and missed my friend but I found that I also wanted to enjoy the beginning of university. But this felt wrong to admit. There seemed to be a social expectation of what grief should look like.
So my aim with this film is to portray grief in a nuanced and honest way and convey that the stereotypical motions of grief are not a measure by which to know how much someone cares."
