🥔 The Film

SPUDS is a 10-minute short film following Dave and Greg — two bumbling, anthropomorphic potatoes trying (and failing) to integrate into human society. 

From obscure codependent habits to surreal encounters with their job coach, their journey takes a darkly comic turn when Dave unknowingly develops an insatiable potato addiction.The film echoes the life of two whimsical and neurodivergent best friends who; tied together through their dysfunction, attempt to put a square peg in a round hole.What begins as a heartfelt friendship peels back layers of absurdity and darkness, balancing spades of surreal humour with heartfelt whimsy.

We’ve already shot the film — with a cast of 7 and a 20-person crew — and the energy on set was ridiculous. Now, we just need your help to finish it. 

🎨 The Creators 

Hi! We are: Sam Ashcroft and Joe D’Orso, Comedians, Clowns and budding script writers. After launching ourselves into the Alt comedy stratosphere with the ‘Spuds’  live show - developed from a street show, to a fringe show, we're taking Spuds to the big screen. Alongside award winning film Director Ella Faye, we have created something that feels brimming with potential.

🎬 Where We’re At

After a hugely successful shoot and sell-out runs of Tatties in Business across Edinburgh, Brighton and Camden Fringe Festivals, the potatoes are boiled — financially speaking. The film has been a labour of love — completely self-funded by two broke spuds. We've worked as gardeners and landscapers to raise over £4,000 for the shoot. We don't want to dig holes anymore!

We need £3,000 to finish the film and get SPUDS out into the world.

We’re raising £3,000 to cover:

• Post-production (edit, colour, music, sound)
• Music licensing
• Festival submissions
• Marketing (screenings, poster design etc.)
• Covering outstanding production expenses
