Thirty Six Questions
SYNOPSIS
Pro and Ant are fed up with the dating game: the endless swiping, awkward matches, and disappointing first dates. They want something different. Something real.
But what if finding that kind of connection comes at a cost? A cost that could mean losing everything they believe about themselves, or even their lives.
Why are we so obsessed with the idea of falling in love, with finding the one and living happily ever after, when reality tells us a different story? Divorce rates climb, long-term happiness is far from guaranteed, and yet we keep chasing the fantasy.
At the same time, our culture is more saturated than ever with love on display: dating apps doubling their users, reality dating shows multiplying every season, and millions of us swiping, searching, and hoping for intimacy.
Thirty Six Questions takes us inside this paradox. It’s part social experiment, part theatrical fever dream: a reality dating show with a twist, where the pursuit of connection is both irresistible and unnerving.
The show draws on the famous Thirty-Six Questions to Fall in Love, the 1997 psychological study by Arthur Aron, brought into mainstream consciousness by the New York Times in 2015. But what happens when those questions, designed to foster closeness, are pushed to their limits inside a world where love has become both entertainment and experiment?

As a late twenty-something, I’ve spent years chasing happiness through worldly achievements, relationships and financial success, only to realise that the capitalist narrative was selling me a false promise. The house, the husband, the kids, society tells us that’s the ultimate goal. But what if it’s not? What if however life looks is good enough.
With marriage rates plummeting, and divorce rates rising, there is still a perpetual narrative pushing us to be in romantic relationships. What once was the church forcing interconnection, now is increasingly capitalism, with it being financially prudent to be in romantic relationship. And yet our ability to maintain these connections is ever failing.
Thirty-Six Questions confronts this culture of seeking, using romantic relationships as a lens to explore our obsession with external validation. How far will we go just to feel seen? How much of ourselves will we sacrifice to be loved?
This play flips romance culture on its head, questioning whether the love we tirelessly chase in another is actually the self-love we seek within ourselves.
It’s bold, it’s raw, and it’s a conversation we all need to have.
We Need You to Help Us Bring Thirty Six Questions to Life!
We are seeking funding for the staging of our three-night run at the Pleasance Theatre - October 15th 17th 2025 - a critical stepping stone toward securing resources for a 2026 Edinburgh Fringe run, as well as a potential UK tour.

Other Work
Alongside Love to Love, we’ve continued to develop bold, thought-provoking work. Our projects include:
🎭 Aaron – A powerful play exploring genetic conditions, performed in partnership with Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (PWSA). The piece resonated so deeply that one individual with the condition drove four hours just to see it, saying:
"When is anyone ever going to put a play on about me?"
🔮 Chapter 3568 – A deep dive into the mysteries of the afterlife, questioning what comes next.
At Oneness Productions, we tell stories that give a voice to the unheard, and Thirty Six Questions is the next chapter in that journey.
This is more than just a play. It’s the culmination of years of passion, resilience, and artistic growth. And we’re just getting started.
