London belongs to three corporations, and human connection is policed — permitted only where the system can watch it. Q reviews the city's cameras for The Big Checking Company and confirms one thing: did two people connect? If they did, something shapeless and patient comes to collect. Nine thousand confirmations in, Q feels nothing — until a face he knows lands in his queue.

"I moved to London chasing something, and instead I found a very particular kind of loneliness — the kind you only feel when you're surrounded by millions of people and still somehow untouched by any of them. Every day I passed the same faces, sat on the same crowded trains, lived under the same cameras, and felt myself quietly disappearing. UNWANTED came out of that feeling. It imagines a London a few years from now where that quiet disappearance has become the design — where the distance between us has hardened into a system, and reaching for another person is the one thing you're no longer allowed to do. I'm not warning you about a place I invented. I'm describing the one I already felt closing in."
     -Peter Berberih, Director

UNWANTED is a corporate-dystopian horror short about complicity — the ordinary functionaries whose competence keeps a cruel system running, and the cost of looking at another human through a screen and deciding what they're worth. The entity isn't supernatural. It's what a system builds when it decides people should never reach for one another. It Follows meets Severance: the dread comes from certainty, not surprise.

Directed by Peter Berberih as his MetFilm School Masters film, UNWANTED is a genuine London–Zagreb co-production with Croatian company Jučer d.o.o., built for a festival-first release — the work of a 23-strong crew across the UK, Croatia and Europe who believe connection is worth the risk.

We shoot for five nights in London this August. Your €8,000 goes straight onto the screen: a real London Underground carriage as our central location, the build of the entity itself, and feeding and moving a 23-person crew across five night shoots. This is flexible funding — every euro you pledge reaches the film, whether or not we hit the target. Back UNWANTED, and you're on the record. You're on file.

The system runs on clearance. Every backer is assigned a rank — from APPLICANT, quietly on file, up through MIDDLE MANAGEMENT, to the near-mythical THE UNSEEN, who sign off on everything and answer to no one. Each level grants a little more access to the world of UNWANTED. Choose your clearance.
