Wingman
In an age of social media and dating apps, what is the need for a washed-up god of love? Wingman is a Mockumentary Short Film following Cupid, the god of love, through his day-to-day life in modern London. Once a cute, angelic cherub, now a middle-aged former Z-list celebrity, Cupid finds himself the subject of a documentary crew. Through the course of the film, Cupid takes us through his life and *many* achievements as well as attempting to delve into the modern world of internet dating, all whilst being determined to prove that the old-fashioned ways are best! In 2023, the original idea for Wingman was conceived by Euan, who later pitched the concept to George. They have spent the last 2 years slowly piecing together the story, the jokes, and the final script, polishing it to the point where they’re now excited to bring it to life!
See our concept poster below!
George is a filmmaker from Gateshead who moved to London to study a BA in Contemporary Media Practice. Following his Writer/Director debut with Small Talks in February 2025, George aimed to transition into writing and directing comedy for his next project, which ultimately became Wingman. With inspirations ranging from I'm Alan Partridge to The Office and What We Do in the Shadows, George is very excited and enthusiastic to explore this genre and realise the vision that he and Euan have been working on for the last 2 years.
Euan is a filmmaker from Devon who moved to London at 18 to pursue a BA and then later on an MSc in Film Production. Since being gifted a camera at 9 years old, Euan has seen and made sense of the world through a lens. From making fake You’ve Been Framed videos as a child to having a successful freelance career as an adult, he has had a wide range of experiences. Most recently, creating Chaser, a documentary about drifting, and a fantasy short film called The Abysswalker. With inspirations from mockumentaries such as People Just Do Nothing, Euan is very excited to bring the visuals of Wingman to life.
Émilie is a Canadian writer who moved to London to pursue her Masters in screenwriting. Her work spans comedy, adaptation, and drama, with her most notable credit to date being the co-written ultra-short film Farewell Moves. Since then, she has continued writing and is now stepping into producing with Wingman, her first official credit in the role. Émilie is thrilled to collaborate with her incredibly talented friends on Wingman and looks forward to making audiences laugh just as much as she did when she first read the script.
Sean Dodds is Cupid, our lead actor and subject of the Mockumentary.
Sean is very excited to start working on Wingman, having been a fan of The Office and Alan Partridge for many years now, he is looking forward to channeling his inner David Brent!
George, our Co-Writer and Director, says, “Sean stunned us almost immediately in the audition with his intricate understanding of the genre and character type of Cupid. Clearly inspired by the same shows that Wingman is based on, he is a perfect fit for the role, and I cannot wait to start shooting!”
As previously mentioned, there are a lot of different inspirations for this project, both in the writing and the style of shooting. Mockumentaries like What We Do in the Shadows, The Office, This Country, and People Just Do Nothing are all sources of huge inspiration for the visual style of the film. How the camera is used as though it is a character in the scene, with perfectly timed camera movements to capture the perfect moment or look from an actor. This shaped the kind of mockumentary we want to make. Other comedies like I’m Alan Partridge and The Thick of It are also huge inspirations on the writing, especially with the tragic characters and how they interact with the world around them.
So, where do your donations go? It’s a fair question! With a film production like this, there are naturally a lot of different costs to consider, including but not limited to the following:
-
Actors -
Transport for Cast and Crew -
Food and Drink for Cast and Crew -
Hiring of Equipment -
Hiring of Locations to Film -
Props -
Costumes -
Festivals and Release
We calculated that to be able to make this film in the way that we envision, we’d need to raise at least £4000. Be sure to see what benefits you can claim from donating different amounts at the top of the page!
