CHOICES is a short film about an actor who faces the dilemma of going back to her roots in pursuit of her vocation and belonging or staying in the UK for love.

The Story
CHOICES is about an actor pursuing a career in London. The only thing that stands in her way is that English is her second language and that is challenging for casting and playing Shakespeare, her passion. It's time for a reality check and the stakes are high. Our protagonist is in her thirties, the primetime to become a mother. She either gives in to her husband's wishes to have a family, or she gives her all to pursue her vocation and find her sense of belonging - even if that means leaving the UK without her second half back to Linz, her hometown in Austria.
Director's Statement
I’m an independent filmmaker, director/writer based in London working as a production assistant/ assistant director in the mainstream film industry. I was born and bred in Brazil, and I’m proud to be a British citizen.
I empathise with those who struggle to fit in with society and feel a limitation for having English as a second language. Having aspired to be an actor in the past, I know the feelings and experiences that the protagonist of CHOICES goes through and for many foreign actors that can go in tandem with a crisis of identity and belonging. My work is rooted in the overarching principle of creating and directing compelling character-driven stories that highlight the voices of the female gender such as in CHOICES.
CHOICES takes a unique view on the themes of belonging, identity, self-acceptance and love, making this film worth winning your support!

About the piece: ‘Shakespeare the Complete Works’ is a photolithograph print by Dick Jewell incorporating actors from film and stage, of every play and sonnet written by The Bard for the Folio exhibition at The Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2011.
