Project
Fatal Remedy
Fatal Remedy is a sci-fi drama short film that explores the lengths a father will go to save his son. We are fundraising to help us produce our final year project for the University of Salford.
The film follows David, who lands a position as a cleaner in the large estate of controversial politician Andrew Montgomery. His wife, Debbie, has fallen ill with a rare neurodegenerative disease, with the house being set up as a private hospital to attempt to bring her back to health. A medical implant known as the Neurotether made by a private company, one that Andrew has invested in, is an experimental remedy for the illness and is working in curing her.
Seen but never heard, David begins to feel out of place, but he begins to form his only connection with Debbie, the only person to speak to him nicely and ask him about his own life. Meanwhile, David’s son, Joni, has fallen with the same illness as Debbie, yet as a poorer man, David cannot afford access to the cure.
In a journey of consequence, David must make a decision to let his child die, or take matters into his own hands and take the cure for himself and save one person but cause a fatality to the other.
Rifle Street Studios are no strangers to pushing the next project to be more ambitious than the last. Fatal Remedy is the culmination of all passion, ambition and knowledge leading up to this project as the last in the University film cycle. One shots, action sequences, drama, and a gripping narrative are to be the pinnacles of this latest short film.
Tom Walters has been the director of Rifle Street Studios’ previous 2 ambitious short films. Supernatural drama ‘At Death’s Door’ saw the compelling narrative of Evelyn and Archie bond in a treacherous afterlife, whereas 9 minute one-shot ‘Pink Carnations & Purple Hyacinths’ showed a true depiction of the effects of dementia on an elderly couple’s unending love. With an eye for detail and an ear for moving soundtrack, Fatal Remedy will be a culmination of his best efforts in collaboration with talented actors and crew.
