<INSERT PLAY>

INSERT PLAY is a farcical, clowning, meta-comedy about two actors and a stage manager, trapped within their own play, trying hilariously to find any way out. Through re-writes and intentionally 'poor' character development, they must come together through their various backgrounds and find some stability; in the play, their careers, and wider implications this creative project demands.

Joe Sear-Myles and Sam Toller have collaborated on this project since this time last year (performing a ten-minute scratch at the Pleasance Theatre in March 2022), along with Director Lois Attard joining the team. Later, after numerous auditions and research and developments, we have created a compact and dynamic script, that has already been so much fun to see others enjoy, as well as ourselves.

Now, after booking in three nights at the Camden Peoples Theatre, (22nd to the 24th of August) as part of the Camden Fringe, regrettably we are beginning to struggle to keep up with the cost of the casting and rehearsal process. Especially, as we await our funding application for approval, we are admittedly finding it difficult to secure our brilliant third actor, as they can't afford to do it for free.

We have already invested time and money into the fundamental parts of the production, waiving our own creative fees until we've turned a profit at the box office. We are committed to taking INSERT PLAY to London Theatres, the VAULTS (hoping it still exists!) and lastly the Edinburgh Fringe; this is just the beginning.  We hope, and more importantly want to take this further. Once we've made the work we want show this to as many audiences around the country.

With this investment, we would be able to adequately secure and pay a third actor and start our rehearsal process, whilst we await a decision from the British Arts Council, allowing us to be flexible with their other incomes and commitments, without the looming cloud of our funding application being denied, andd stagnating the progress we've already made. This money will go solely towards our Camden Fringe run.

If we don't get funding from the Arts Council, this Green Lit campaign means we can pay the necessary costs of producing a play - actors fee, directors fee, and social media. This is without paying ourselves as actor/writers and rehearsing wherever we can find free space.

Our target within this Greenlit page will enable us to pay a third actor, and rehearse in an actual theatrical space, rather than our mum's living rooms.

Firstly I'd like to explain the amount of time we have all dedicated to rehearsing. We want to present this, to show how we intend to be completely transparent.

We want to have 3 five day work weeks, of 8 hour days, with 1 hour lunch.

We propose starting at 10am and finishing at 6pm.

From the 10th - 14th of July (location in Bounds Green where we live, with a few of those at The Lady Hamilton in Kentish Town),

    2nd - 6th of August (location TBC),

Monday 14th - 18th of August (location TBC)

With the 20th to the 24th of August will be our production week.

We would like to pay our third actor an Equity "Type-C" rate, the minimum requirement or "level" for grassroots, independent Theatre we're making.

This is taken into consideration before we pay ourselves.

Not only does it enable us to pay a third actor; we also want this level of investment to go towards applying for other venues to rehearse and showcase our project; rather than rehearsing whatever spaces we can gratefully get, be it a pub attic or our parents living room.

To add some context; at the moment we have met with some theatre venues who are already interested in giving the show further life; we also conducted numberous research and development sessions, serving as a way of developing our proof of the concept, and simultaniously auditioning actors for the third role. We have been lucky enough, to have been provided space from all of our kitchens and living spaces, as well as through an "in kind" offering of a room above The Lady Hamilton Pub in Kentish Town.

With this investment, we hope to approach more well-connected venues across London to showcase our show.

This may seem small, and we remain greatful for the help we have recieved; but for any creative; having a space to show, and more importantly demonstrate the flexibility of this production, brings us to an opportunity, to connect to wider audiences.

We'd like to reiterate; we are asking for this investment so we can continue to pursue our passion within the Theatre - making fresh, new work for excited audiences. We love telling stories, and hopefully with your investment, we intend to do so.
