THE STORY

In the near future where verbal communication is made impossible without true love, we follow Mark; down on his luck after divorce and desperately searching for a new voice to connect with.

Through a neurologically implanted device called the 'Nueralink', people utilise this device to communicate with each other with the only way of hearing another individuals voice through true love. Yearning for a new love, Mark goes down different avenues with lacklustre attempts to grasp at a verbal connection within this silent world until suddenly hearing the voice of a stranger, ensuing a unique and deep exploration of rediscovering what it means to be human in a technological age. 

DIRECTORS STATEMENT

As a writer, this idea reflects a lot of my own personal attitudes towards relationships and society as a whole.

Throughout my own human experience, I have seen the negative impact of technology on communication in relationships.

However, despite my pessimistic attitudes surrounding this, I have witnessed that true love is the basis of our existence and no matter how technologically dependent we will become in the near future, love will conquer all.

As of recent, we have seen incredibly worrying advancements in AI and devices such as Neuralink which have acted as a catalyst for the creation of Love Listens. I think these advancements will prove to be extremely impactful towards our relationships in the future.

THE NEURALINK

The Nueralink is one of the primary focuses within Love Listens as its what everyone uses to communicate within this futuristic city. As explained above; verbal communication is made redundant due to the introduction of this advanced communication device and users are only able to hear the voice of another individual through true love. 

Our development so far on creating the Nueralink has been going at a steady pace with our Production Designer; Lys and our Costume Designer; Hannah both at the helm in finalising different unique designs for all characters to wear when it comes to shooting. 

The development photos shown are only prototypes that have been done through Blender and 3D print and were made for the crowdfunding trailer showcase & the first batch of promotional posters. 

VFX

As seen in the trailer, VFX also plays a massive role in worldbuilding. Each Nueralink is able to project out a hologram that can show everyday routine things such as calling with other people to watching TV shows etc.

Our VFX editor; Romario is an essential in our crew to helping showcase these holograms in a creative and pinpoint fashion. These VFX designs are still in early works and were made for the crowdfund trailer showcase.
