    The Story.

Logline - Midnight Love is a contemporary depiction of a sapphic love story. Two young women navigate the complexities of their newfound relationship under the pressure of societal expectations.

    Synopsis.

MIDNIGHT LOVE is a short drama that explores the depth and realism of a ‘situationship’ shown between Sophie and Marnie. The film opens at a local pub with friends where our two protagonists meet for the first time; thus, their story begins. We depict the depth of queer relationships through the push and pull of Sophie and Marnie's relationship or shall we say situationship. Sophie holds back on her love for Sophie, as an openly queer woman, she struggles to accept love again; memories of past ventures in love plague her. This impacts Marnie, who is starting to wonder where their relationship will go if they continue with the lack of communication, keeping their love behind closed doors. Arlo, Sophie's roommate and friend, has a closer insight into the relationship than both, owing to his outside perspective. He roots for them and attempts to bridge their apparent gaps in communication.

The film hits a crucial tipping point for our characters as Marnie declares “I can’t be your midnight love anymore...” This leaves Sophie pondering 'what if' and whether she can salvage what they have. With the help of Arlo, we come to a crescendo that brings hope because that's all love is, after all, hope persevering.

    Tone & Visuals

Midnight Love is 'The Break-up' meets 'The Happiest Season' in terms of genre.

Visually, the film is desaturated and has natural lighting, fostering a realistic and familiar tone. Handheld and close-ups allow for a focus on body language; employing a particular focus on hands. We are firmly of the creative opinion that actions really do speak louder than words.

    Cast & Crew.

    Our Current Stage of Production.

We are currently preparing to shoot the film this summer. Ourselves and our Composer are currently working on an original song for the film that we are hoping to tease to you all as Autumn comes around.

We have a few more crew members to announce but we have the majority of the team in place and ready to go.

    How You Can Help.

Short films are a wonderful opportunity for filmmakers to experiment, to find and test their authored voice and skills. Given a platform to tell the stories that they want to tell.

Short films like ours are notoriously difficult to fund, as funding avenues are extremely hard to come by or win. This is why donations like yours are so important. Our crew, which we have almost completed and have in place, is very much intended to be female and queer-oriented to address the parity of minority professionals in our industry, meaning that by donating you will play a pivotal role in addressing this too. We aim to give people the chance to work on projects who may not always be given a chance elsewhere.

The money that you are donating will be used to film Midnight Love and pay our talented cast and crew. With your help, we can make this film the best it can be.

We are so grateful to you, whether you have just stumbled upon this project or you are friends and family, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

    Risks & Challenges.

Like all things in life, there are risks and challenges that we will face when shooting this project. We have already faced a few bumps in the road and managed to overturn them.

Our main challenge is shooting on time, as we have a long four-day shoot ahead of us. Ultimately, we need to make sure that everything moves along swiftly and that we all work together to get the project done to the best of our abilities.

    More Information.
