Seed
What?
Seed is a short narrative fiction film - a quiet psychological horror movie about infertility and its impact on mental health. It's a female-centric story, rather strange, beautifully shot, and with a tangible sense of pathos occasionally illuminated by flashes of dark humour.
Why?
I wanted to use elevated genre as a way to explore the horrors of infertility, obsession, insomnia and madness. I think infertility is a subject - like many subjects related to female health - that is not talked about enough in society, perhaps because of a sense of taboo around reproductive health.
Who?
Sara Roberts is a versatile Writer and Director from a cross-cultural background, with a global outlook. She enjoys working collaboratively and is particularly interested in writing about women's stories. She is interested in exploring themes of mental health and the dehumanising effects of institutions, and has a keen appreciation for the comedy of the absurd.
Sara has lived in Ecuador, Spain, France and Portugal, and is currently based in Oxford, UK, where she teaches English and writes. She worked briefly for the BBC and was editor of Cafe Aphra, an online journal and writing blog, for several years. She has had her prose work published in a number of literary magazines and is an award-winning screenwriter for TV and film.
Seed is adapted from one of her short stories.
How?
As is well known, external funding sources for short films are few and far between, so we've decided - in addition to applying for external funding - to raise our own funds to finish making this film. Even though we have already shot the footage, we still have to edit it, get it colour graded, have an original score composed for it and the sound design done. This all takes time and, of course, money.
There are different ways that you can help us to make this film as good as it deserves to be. If you are able to make a donation - whatever the amount - to this crowdfunding campaign, it would be received with immense gratitude and huge thanks from all of us to help cover the costs of post-production.
But even if you can't contribute financially, you can still make a really big difference by sharing this campaign with your friends and family, your colleagues, and everyone you know who appreciates the art of cinema!
The more we spread the word, in a meaningful way, about this film, the more people are likely to help us make it happen, and make it great, and then watch it with us afterwards.
We've come up with some fantastic perks and rewards, which you'll see here on our page, and I hope very much that you find something you enjoy there.
However, if there's anything that is not on the list - you fancy having a character named after you, or you'd like a Zoom call with the Director, or something else we haven't thought of - please do send us a message on Instagram @seed.shortfilm or just an email to: seed.shortfilm@yahoo.com and if we can possibly grant your wish, we'd love to!
