A Silent Beat
Thank you for your interest in our project! Let us tell you a little bit more about "A Silent Beat", what the story is about, our concept and themes, as well as why we need your help to make it come to life.
Our Story
After losing his mother, a young man will have to learn how to live without her, as he tries to understand how to face a constant and painful beat within him.
Our Concept
As the theme of this short film is grief, our approach will be to visually represent it with the image of a drum kit, which the main character is struggling to play and can’t get out of his mind, and a drum-like sound we will refer to as "the beat".
In the film, the protagonist will go through all the natural stages of grief and we will be linking them with the aforementioned motifs, as well as with the main events of the story.
- Denial (avoidance, confusion, fear, numbness, blame)
- Anger (frustration, anxiety, irritation)
- Depression (overwhelmed, lack of energy, helplessness)
- Bargaining (reaching out to others, desire to tell one’s story)
- Acceptance (a new plan in place, meaning, security, self-esteem)
Our Approach
Sadly, death is a universal truth every human being has to face at one point. So this story has the potential of touching audiences, independently of their gender, culture, background, and other factors.
Also, when talking about experiencing loss and grief, one does not necessarily have to talk about someone passing.
We as human beings face loss all the time. We go through it when we lose a close friend, when we go through a breakup, when we have to say goodbye to a place we love, or simply when we lose a part of ourselves, our dreams, or our identity.
We go through the stages of grief all the time without even noticing it, and this is one of the reasons we think it is important for us to tell this story.
Acceptance is never easy, there is always a process and a lot of work to be done in order to reconstruct ourselves and be able to get back on our feet.
Why with music?
We believe music is the most pure source of emotion.
This film will be sound and music based in order to translate the mental and emotional experience of grief, which we believe most of the time can go unnoticed since it is a very ‘silent’ process that only becomes ‘deafening’ inside one’s mind and body.
It is the contrast between the screaming drums and the quiet reality that will allow us to make this experience more personal and real.
