The Sisters Club

Hello! We want to open our door to you, and thank you so much for your interest in our project, The Sisters Club.
In a long-awaited reunion, three sisters come together in their childhood home after a year apart, awakening a wave of nostalgia and memories that strengthen the unbreakable bond between them.
This film celebrates the strength, resilience, and bond of sisterhood. Through our project, we aspire to explore the intricacies of female relationships, the unwavering support they offer, and the transformative impact they can have on each individual.
The film visually explores this by using their childhood home as an emotional map for the various aspects that come with these relationships. The story unfolds in one day, when two older sisters visit their younger sister who still lives at home.
Themes: Sisterhood, Family, Friendship, Love, Home, Childhood, Nostalgia, Rejection, Feminism.

MEET OUR CREW!

Writer & Director's Intent:
Sisterhood has always been a fundamental presence in my life, shaping me into the woman I am today. The Sisters Club is a film that delves into the depths of these authentic sisterly connections, capturing their nuanced nature and the blend of positive and negative aspects that only those with siblings can truly understand. The spectrum of emotions experienced is as fluid as it is transient, and it is our genuine intention to portray this vividly through the various situations our protagonists encounter in the film.
Family relationships hold immense relevance for all of us, yet they are so seldomly portrayed authentically in film. Often, these bonds are depicted in extreme ways, either showcasing chaotic and toxic dynamics or painting an idealised picture of familial bliss. With this project, my goal is to create a space where a family can be portrayed with love that is unconditional but imperfect.
I aim to create a film that allows people to delve into emotions they may not always feel comfortable sharing with others, capturing the special moments that often remain hidden from the outside world. While each person's dynamic with their own family may be distinct, the intimacy of these connections is what truly makes this a universal story. Sisterhood presents an intense duality that makes these bonds exceptional, and The Sisters Club will illuminate this at every step of the journey.

Cinematographer's Intention:
As a cinematographer, my vision for this short film is to bring the story to life through the artful use of natural conversations, drawing inspiration from the storytelling style of Eric Rohmer.
To achieve this, I will focus on capturing the intimate and authentic interactions between characters by carefully framing shots that enhance the emotional depth of their conversations. Through the deliberate use of lighting, camera movement, and visual composition, I aim to emphasise the nuances and subtle expressions that lie within the dialogue, immersing the audience in the lives of the characters.
Furthermore, I believe in the power of visual storytelling, and I intend to utilise image systems to enrich the narrative with layers of meaning. By employing recurring images, thoughtfully composed shots, and symbolic colours, I will subtly introduce themes, symbolise character growth, and create associated meanings that deepen the audience's emotional engagement with the story.
Ultimately, my goal is to create a visually captivating and emotionally resonant experience, where the dialogue-driven progression of the story intertwines seamlessly with the visual elements, engaging and connecting with audiences on a profound level.

FULL SYNOPSIS
Cerys anxiously awaits her sisters' arrival. When they finally reach the house, they gather in the kitchen, a place that has always been the heart of their home. Cerys can't shake the feeling that Maisie isn't fully invested in this reunion, especially upon learning that she plans to meet her school friends later, which sparks the first argument. Eden, aware of Maisie's plans and anticipating Cerys's reaction, tries to diffuse the tension by changing the subject and avoiding taking sides. Meanwhile, Cerys decides to prepare a perfect family dinner for her sisters, demonstrating that she isn't bothered by Maisie's decision to leave.
The conversation continues in the bathroom, where Maisie does her makeup while Eden takes a bath. Cerys watches her sisters from the doorway, not sure if she will take up the space, but when Maisie asks for her help with makeup, Cerys joins them. They reminisce about bathing together in the past and share the sadness that such moments could never be replicated. Cerys joins Eden in the bath, and they begin planning a perfect sisterly evening filled with nostalgic movies and snacks, which convinces Maisie to cancel her plans and stay in.
The sisters indulge in their favourite 2000s film, quoting lines together. Their sense of belonging and ease brings comfort to Cerys. They decide to play board games, which again creates tension. However, the disagreements hold little weight as they prioritise their limited time together, pausing their pretences.
As day transitions into night, they separate to their respective bedrooms. In the guest room, Maisie and Eden express concerns about Cerys being stuck in the house and frustration over her lack of employment and financial independence. Before the conversation can fully unfold, Cerys enters the room with her pillow and duvet, asking to sleep alongside her sisters. Despite the limited space, Maisie and Eden make room for her. They all squeeze into the same bed they used during childhood and teenage sleepovers.
Cerys wakes up alone in a quiet room, in a quiet house. The spaces that were once filled with people, just a day ago and years ago, now stand empty.
