Project
Subterranean
Subterranean has been funded! The whole team would like to thank everyone involved in the campaign and anyone who donated to the project. We'd also like to thank everyone who shared our page and help spread the word. We couldn't have done this without you all. We will see you on the other side.
Welcome to our campaign,
This is a Brighton film through and through. Our aim is to capture the atmosphere of the city and the bohemian DIY style that is ingrained in the local creative scene. We will reflect this in the filmmaking in order to avoid the postcard idea of what Brighton is. Instead, we want to capture it as a colourful party town known for its illicit pleasures. Brighton also has a reputation for as a musician’s town and we really wanted to have reflected in key creative decisions. From the writing stage through to casting. We want the city to be as much of a main player in our film as Harvey is.
PROJECT HISTORY
After Oliver had written the initial draft of the script Linn was brought on-board as Co-writer and Producer. Together they began refining the script and zeroing in on the core themes that we as a team wanted to explore. Once the script was in a presentable position they began to work with Ewan who has a background in Producing and Videography on an array of music videos. It wasn't long before the team began confirming additional crew members from London and the South East. When considering our options for casting, it was really important to cast professional and non-professional actors who really embody our characters so that we can get under the skin of our characters in the rehearsal stage.
The whole team is currently deep in Pre-Production. We are really excited to have found a talented and passionate cast and crew who will join us in bringing this project to life!
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
Subterranean's subject matters deal with themes and issues that are very close to my experiences. I want to continue to explore, through my stylistic approach to filmmaking, what I have been experimenting with in regard to content and form. I have always been inspired by the freedom found in the filmmaking style of revolutionary New Wave cinema movements. From the Czechoslovakia New Wave of the '60s to the Mumblecore movement in the early '00s. I think it's important to also name check certain influential filmmakers such as John Cassavettes, Maurice Pialat, and Mike Leigh when discussing my approach to filmmaking. I aspire to make rich character studies. Through my films, I wish to explore issues close to my generation in a country that stands before an uncertain future and with an aesthetic that matches our digitally rich lifestyles. With filmmakers such as Mark Jenkin making personal character studies in locations around the country often unseen or appreciated in cinema. I believe that Brighton’s rich cinematic history has a few more pages to be written.

THE CAMPAIGN
The money raised through this campaign will go to paying cast and crew members to help to bring our vision to life. Overall our budget is projected to cover:
- Wardrobe and props. Our team believes in sustainable and ethical practices being employed in the filmmaking process in regard to fast fashion and the over-consumption of plastic.
- Hiring equipment costs for the Sony FS7 camera we want to use, as well as the best sound equipment.
- Location hire. We want to shoot, boots on the ground, in and around the city center and work with local businesses.
- Additional set decoration props.
- Travel expenses for all cast and crew.
- Catering for the shoot days to keep the production running smoothly and keep everyone energised.
- Film festival run. We want to get our film out to as many people as possible all around the globe.
We are looking for any kind of support for our project. If you cannot help financially we would really appreciate it if you could share our GREENLIT page on social media to help spread the word.
Thank you for looking through our campaign.
