Three of Swords follows 21-year-old Marie through a seemingly ordinary day in Paris, where she leads an attractive yet solitary life as a film student. Romantic, idealistic yet deeply troubled, Marie lives in fear of one particular childhood memory involving an ominous figure known as the Tall Man.

We meet Marie on the day she decides to confront her fate with a deck of tarot cards. Reading her fortune, she repeatedly draws the same hand, seemingly unable to evade her destiny. As her reality grows increasingly unsettling, Marie realises she may not be as alone in her apartment as previously thought.

Serving as a proof of concept for a fully fleshed out feature (Sacred Hearts), Three of Swords as a short conveys the cyclicality and ultimate loneliness of a young woman’s life in a city which has not quite lived up to her dreams. How can she prevent the past from repeating itself, and how much control do we really have over our circumstances?

    Carys Maloney as MARIE

Carys Maloney is a poet, actor, art historian and model. Having published two collections of poetry and trained with National Youth Theatre, she is currently studying at The Courtauld Institute of Art, London. In Three of Swords she will be portraying Marie, the film's romantic yet troubled protagonist.

    Imogen Radwan - Writer/Director

Imogen Radwan is a writer and director from West Sussex, UK. Over the years, Imogen has developed a voice for herself through her explorations in psychological horror, surrealism and romance. Following the completion of her last short film, Mia’s World, this project will be her first step towards making a full-length feature with a widespread audience. Drawing inspiration from French New Wave cinema, Imogen hopes to refresh some of the defining features of this movement to reflect our current times, while questioning its very influence on her generation of cinephiles.

    Sam Greaves - Producer

Sam credits a lifelong love of film to a vivid memory of sitting down with his Dad in the mid-90’s to watch 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on the living room CRT TV. Fun family adventure for the whole family? I think not. It absolutely terrified him. He wept endlessly and didn't sleep properly for even longer. Haunting as that experience was, it was curiously the same moment he fell in love with telling stories.

Based in London, Sam has producing experience across a number of mediums throughout his years in the industry. Having focused more recently on commercial & branded projects, Three of Swords is a long overdue foray back into the scripted space.

Hoagy Hickson - Director of Photography

Hoagy Hickson is a London based Director of Photography. He started his journey in filmmaking while at art school where he began as a sculptor, however quickly fell in love with film and never looked back. While studying he began running on artist moving image projects and documentaries and later went on to complete a masters in Cinematography. Since then he has worked on all sorts of projects across narrative, music video and artist moving image.

    Madeleine Clench - Production Designer

Madeleine is a Production Designer, photographer and all round creative, based in Brighton, UK. After graduating from art school, she has worked in the art department on music videos, and her own photography projects.

"Film has always been an escape for me, giving me a world to lose myself in. Through the good times and the bad, this medium  never fails to give me a sense of life, how special humans can be and the legacies we leave behind. My work is always trying to push the beauty of this earth and the people in it further."

It’s important to everyone behind this campaign that every single penny of your generously donated hard-earned cash ends up on screen. That means fairly paying all of our talent, whether on-screen or behind the camera.

As previously mentioned, Three of Swords has been developed to accurately showcase the tone & most pertinent themes of its parent project, Sacred Hearts. We’re hoping that with the combination of our hard work and your support, we’ll be able to proudly present Three of Swords at festivals, in competitions, and ultimately to financiers - to leverage our momentum to get the full-length feature vision realised.
